I abstained from sex during my teens because I knew about the technical aspects, and consequences, of sex at an early age. My first sex ed. class was at 5 years old where they explained puberty, how a woman became pregnant, the stages of pregnancy, labor, etc. As I became older, all of the sex ed. classes that I attended became more detailed. Knowing the in's and out's (no pun intended) of sex early definitely influenced my decision to abstain as a teen. With knowledge comes better choices.

To people who think elementary school is too early for a child to learn about sex: when is the correct time? To me, if a child is mature enough to formulate the question, then they're mature enough to ...

To people who think elementary school is too early for a child to learn about sex: when is the correct time? To me, if a child is mature enough to formulate the question, then they're mature enough to get a clear, straight answer. Why do we want to prolong a child's "innocence" for so long? Do we really want to encourage naivete and ignorance on this subject? Children are going to find a way to satisfy their curiosity. I'd rather my child do that by hearing about sex from me rather than their equally ignorant friends,or worse, from the "hands-on" approach.

Conservatives need to come back to reality and think practically. I'd have more respect for them if they actually practiced what they preached.
