WTF! This really boggles my mind!

What next, a motorcycle or trip to Europe just for getting out of bed?

I guess they were really rewarding staying in school because of the high drop-out rate.

Education is really wasted on the young if they have to be rewarded and bribed in order to attend.

IMO they should be teaching more about civic responsibility and values. Then perhaps the value of getting a decent education would become self-evident

"These kids can go out and earn $15, $16, $17 an hour swinging a hammer. It's kind of hard to keep them in school past their 16th birthday,"
Geez! Guess I'll have to head to Wyoming to earn some $! I have never made over $16.50/hr with a master's degree!

I say let those who want to drop out and go to work do so. They obviously aren't motivated enough to stay in school, so why bribe them to attend when attending doesn't necessarily result in education. Let them work. If they tire of working and realize that they want to go to college they can get their GED and continue on, perhaps with some money saved to keep them from having to borrow for their education.

When I was a kid you went to juvenile court if you didn't go. And then reform school. What happened there.

Trying to provide incentive for students to do well academically is very noble, but if only a few students will receive these big-ticket items, then the rest of the student body will not be motivated. The whole school knows which students will have a shot at getting the car, and the students who already have good attendance are not the ones that need to be persuaded to come to class. This will not motivate the academically-in-danger students; they know from the start they wont get it. If the school took the same money and found cheaper incentives, to encourage a bro...
