I thought the whole sleep tight thing was when you'd be tucked in all tight and snug.. Good find! However, I do know for a fact that the first one is wrong - it was wrongly quoted in a book and spread from there; the poses mean nothing. One of mums sayings was "Mind your P's and Q's" I never understood it except that it was better to shut up when it was said. Humour told me what a Pee was, but the Q's? Now I know. I bet she doesn't. hehe Next phone call. When I was very young, I read in a children's encyclopedia (anyone else remember World Book's "Childcraft" book series?) that the "Ps and Qs" idiom originated from the days when newspapers were made on printers with backward-facing metal type, and those in charge of such machines advising their apprentices to take special care to avoid confusing lowercase P (p) with lowercase Q (q). However, this origin too is debatable: [link] Also, Snopes on the King Cards. I suggest looking here too: http://www.snopes.com/photos/signs/bombus.asp I love this clip Aribeth, it covers everything: Drinking, gambling, bedding.... Everything that matters I'm glad you are back! Thanks |
