AtlLiberal says: It's not often that I agree with religious leaders but when I do it deserves to be pointed out. The point that Benedict makes of refuting the claim that evolution promotes atheism is of course correct. Although many, particularly in the States, believe otherwise. Unfortunately, the persons that fall into this category are also people that are the least informed on the subject. Creationists believe that science is democratic - if a majority of people believe in something that is unscientific it automatically becomes fact. I've noticed this unusual understanding of science also. Also, fundamentalists, because of an apparently widespread belief that science should mimic religion and contain irrefutable dogma, seize on occurrences when science findings are shown to be false as proof that science is wrong and religion is right. Of course, all this mindset does is reveal the ignorance of this type of thinking. Creationists believe that science is democratic - if a majority of people believe in something that is unscientific it automatically becomes fact.Yet it is the opposite when in comes to religion. Their interpretations can not be questioned. Their interpretations can not be questioned.Sure! That's the definition of dogma. |
