I classic, "I don't understand it, so that is proof of god." Ahem. It's a joke! It's not actually offered as a serious proof of God's existence. Whew! After the banana and peanut butter, I can't tell the difference between jokes and the real thing. I actually think circumcision is a better argument than both of those. Believe it or not, I momentarily broke into a sweat over that one myself! But in serious answer to the not so serious question... No man would think of doing it to himself, but auto-circumcision is no doubt extremely rare. As with most of the more negative and bloody parts of religion, it is not something you do to yourself so much as something you do to other people in the name of your faith. What about people who cut themselves or those people in africa who lengthen up there necks with those neck bands. There are many tribes from Africa to South America that do things to there bodies that we would consider it mangling themselves people have done worse things to there bodies than circumcision I think it was instituted to promote cleanliness at a time when syphilis and other STDs was really widespread.
