merrie says: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/teens.htm Just Google "USA Murder Statistics." The top site to appear will be the Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics. Click on it, then go to "Demographic Trends." Click on "Age." For hard numbers on the key demographics, click on the colored graphs. Run the numbers yourself, based upon the demographic percentages of murders per every 100,000 people. Then look at the actual murder counts. Know what else you'll learn? In 2005 alone, 8,718 young Americans from the same age group were murdered in this country. That's well over twice as many as the number of troops killed in all our foreign missions since 2001. Maybe military service not only prevents you from committing crimes, but also keeps you alive? The "Maybe military service not only prevents you from committing crimes, but also keeps you alive?" may be a little much but I agree with your point. The other thing most Americans don't seem to get is that if you look at the history of our wars, conflicts and police actions (Vietnam), the casualties in the current war/conflict are a small fraction of what any other major conflict in the past has been. here is a breakdown: http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/warstat2.htm Each and every life taken is a loss and its a shame it has to happen, but this is the way some situations have to be dealt with. Do you think all of these protesters and slanderers would be out to make the military and our le... I agree a lot with you burndata0. I only had to read the NYT headline to know they were trying to *create* another story to blast the Iraq war. Did these people have to go to journalism school to learn how to twist a *fact* into a shocking story. Such deceitfulness is beneath contempt. Way beneath contempt. I often am wanting for words to describe the degree of low disgust due the people who perpetrate such outright bullshit! I have no idea why people even read newspapers now days. It's so biased and partisan, yet nobody seems to see through it. Thank goodness for bloggers who can now expose lies that the media is trying to pass off as news. The media may hate bloggers, but the press has never been so free as it is today. |
