AtlLiberal says: Proselytizing Christians anger Hindus in this latest saga of religious violence to sprout up in the world. Of course, atheists look at this and can't help but shake their heads at how nonsensical religionists are. I expect most non believers look on in dismay, to see so many supposedly mature adults bickering and fighting over their various faiths is astonishing. India is still dominated by caste issues. Christianity, spread mostly by Indians themselves (not missionaries), is exploding among low-caste Indians, who find themselves treated as equals in Christian community. Naturally, this profoundly upsets the Hindu applecart, for many upper-caste Indians find their traditional social and economic dominance over low-caste people called into question. People by the millions are being set free from utter degradation and virtual slavery. As is almost always the case, the fight is not over religion as much as it is over class dominance. As is almost always the case, the fight is not over religion as much as it is over class dominance.Again, you've hit the nail on the head. The god of power seems to be money. The quest for religious truth is ancillary. Religious sectarianism versus social schisms. I think religion is in most cases the primal cause of the perception of "otherness". Consider the ubiquitous religious declaration that "our faith" is the one true faith. That is not an atmosphere to encourage cooperation and trust. Throw in active proselytizing by a minority sect and you have the makings for exactly what is happening in the clip. |
