There are probably 1,000's of obsolete words in this and many other dictionaries that could have been dropped without being missed.

Is this a reflection of changing attitudes towards nature?

Are we failing our children by giving them electronic substitutions for what nature use to teach us?

Maybe the publishers are simply making a statement.
