Als "politisch gefährlich" hat der frühere Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder (SPD) die Pläne der USA für ein Raketenabwehrsystem in Osteuropa kritisiert. Sie seien der Versuch, "eine unsinnige Einkreisungspolitik gegenüber Russland zu etablieren, die alles andere als im Interesse Europas liegt", sagte er am Sonntag in einer Rede in Dresden. Er warnte vor einem globalen Wettrüsten und appellierte an die Bundesregierung, ihre Beziehungen zu nutzen, damit die USA auf das Projekt verzichten.
