At first I was irritated... but then i read the last paragraph:
So the solution lies in parents getting the facts and then talking to their children about expectations for online activity. Foster believes that, "Whether it is the home computer or these new gaming consoles, porn is easily accessible. The Wii is an amazing console and tons of fun but parents need good info on how to keep kids safe."
I still think it is a bit of an extreme/fear mongering way to get the message of that last paragraph across...

"Portals to porno" is a bit of a stretch.

Whether via Wii or not, children can easily get porn information via PC, book and dvd ... "parents need good info on how to keep kids safe." It's not only Wii that has a porn problem. There are other media, which much children can take more easily, on book stores in every district.

But the global warming fear mongering that has children losing sleep and making them thing the whole world is going to be flooded just to get across a message that the world is warming by a few hundredths of a degree is just fine?

Whatever n2, you lost that argument, get over it.

Back on topic...

Luixxiul, I agree.. parents need to just plain pay attention to what their kids watch, read, listen to, etc. I don't mean that they need to hover over their kid's shoulders or "lock them down" - stop them from watching/reading/listening to anything that might be offensive.. cause kids will find a way. But they could talk to their kids, discuss what they are seeing, etc. They could set mild limits to what they access, banning "porn" is an obviously good idea, but banning semi-violent/sexually suggestive movies is not, kids need to be exposed to such things in a safe environment where they can discuss with not only their ...

Just declare a consensus and hope it goes away? Typical.

I think it is important that parents be made aware of the Wii's ability to connect kids with porn. At least the parents would then be able to make an informed decision about letting their kids use it.

Here is the article from the source. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Warns parents about the potential of porn then tells them about the parental controls. Doesn't sound alarmist or anti-Wii at all.

Off Topic @ N2: Who declared consensus? I declared victory.. an i have no doubt you won't go away, you are to irritating and irrational for that.

On Topic @ egoldstein: Oh, I have no disagreement with that at all, in fact parents should be made aware of a computer's ability to access porn (via the web), as well as a TVs.. and i think parents should not just be worried about porn... I'd be more worried about violence...

Most parents seem either oblivious to the fact of porn on the web, or think their kids are angels..

The Porn Talk founder Mike Foster is recommending that Congress ban the teaching of reading in the public schools, because kids who can read can use those skills to find porn sites on the web.

Foster is also urging parents not to teach their children how to talk, since their children will then be enabled to talk back to their parents.

"My parents didn't teach me how to use my brain, and I'll be gosh-darned if I'm gonna let my kids use theirs!" said Foster.

Why don't we stop making these things taboo? Kids look at porn more because it's a forbidden thrill rather than a pleasure.

I grew up Southern Baptist, and I'm not at ALL surprised to see this. Fundamentalists have ALWAYS used fear to control people.

To me, this is just another "here we go again."

Some of their propaganda looks a lot like psychological terrorism to me.

Here we are fighting a "war on terror" and we have terrorists running the country and running around WITHIN the country trying to manipulate and control people. Ironic, I think.
