Those who fueled the fears and exaggerated the influence and capabilities of Muslim extremists have accomplished the terrorists' purpose for them. Those who do so now, about Iran, are still at it.
The idea that Bush could scare America into going to war in the Middle East SO played into the terrorists' hands. They wanted us afraid. Bush/Cheney and their minions sent out the fear message at every opportunity, and still do.
Terrorists don't care if they die - war against them is no great loss. They care only that we are afraid, and that we die. And Bush gave them 4,000 Americans. How...

Fully agree with masbury. Perhaps for the first time in history a war is being fought to stop something that has already happened.

A better response to 9/11 would have been to sink a trillion dollars into getting America off of crude oil rather than wasting it on the current war. Money could have been used to help families move from gas cars to alternate fuels , our power grid could have been beefed up to take the extra load from electricity demands, new companies to train new technology technicians would have provided thousands of jobs, and incentives for research and developing of alternate powers could have been quite attractive.
