This problem has always amazed me. Their can be only a couple of explanations. One would be that the idiots who got us unto this actually believed it would be over by now, which would also suggest that they totally disregarded any advice to the contrary. Or they didn't think anyone would get wounded or maybe they just didn't think it was important enough. The bottom line, why would you not prepare?

"why would you not prepare?" ... Because we're talking about the government!

Sad but true.

February 2002:Kenneth Adelman, a former Pentagon aide, US envoy to the United Nations and arms-control negotiator, wrote in The Washington Post: "I believe demolishing [President Saddam] Hussein's military power and liberating Iraq would be a cakewalk. Let me give simple, responsible reasons: one, it was a cakewalk last time; two, they've become much weaker; (3) we've become much stronger, and four, now we're playing for keeps."

No, we're talking about the Republicans. Who believe that the government can't do anything right, and get themselves elected in order to prove it. Who believe that a war is best fought via private enterprise, subcontracting it to Blackwater. Who believe that Medicare is morally wrong, and it would be best if people just paid for their own healthcare when they got sick. Or shot through the head in Iraq.
