Can you imagine? An old woman so fed up with violence all around her, the ever present death of human beings on a day to day basis, and the destruction of property both private and public, that she resorts to a lie in the most modest of efforts to stop it? Naw. That could never happen.

Jesus. I clicked on the link in the clip (the one labelled "caption from the AFP") and it takes you to a slideshow of almost 500 photos from Iraq. Pretty depressing. One photo after another of corpses, kids covered with blood, houses in ruins, etc. Somehow the humor willhelm sees in this image kind of fades when looking at that...

Just visited the site this is clipped from and one of the other right-leaning blogs it uses as a source. Man, everyone should go check out the comments on these. Lots of comments about "Granny hadji" and so forth. As if all those Iraqis were just boo-hooing about nothing and any Iraqi who complains about violence is obviously just a dupe in bed with al-Qaeda, or Sadr, or Ahmadinejad, or one of them there moojies.
