I disagree. Atheism means not believing in the existence of a supreme, divine being. Atheism says nothing about other (theoretical) possibilities, like the crazy thought of the universe being made by us for us, in the future or in the past. I don't believe that either, but it surely isn't atheism. If you talk about disbelief in things not proven, you are closer to nihilism.

agreed

It was a little joke. Not really meant for philosophical deconstruction

I don't understand. According to the dictionary atheism means:
1. the doctrine or belief that there is no God.
2. disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.

Yet you say that there is a possibility of the existence of a supreme, divine being. Are you sure you are an atheist?

If there is a supreme divine being, who did he make the universe for?

No, I don't.

And I'm not sure. So I don't join like a sheep in any religious group. And from what I see from religious groups that hate other religious groups, to the point that they would kill that other group. I am probably far better off by just saying. I don't know.

@cptenaud

"Not sure" is the right place to be.

And of course "I don't know" is the only honest answer.

Atheism is the rejection of both classic organized religion, and the belief that there is an all powerful supreme being.

Atheism is derived from the Greek word "atheos" - "a" meaning no or without and "theos" meaning God.

It is the rejection of Theocentric Society

That is not to say that an Atheist cannot have spirituality.

Assuming spirituality to necessarily involve gods is very closed-minded. Spirituality is reflective, thoughtful, peaceful, and involves a sense of wonder.
The strength and depth of such feelings can vary, and surprise one with intensity, then nearly disappear for long stretches of time. Some say belief in god gives them these feelings - but this isn't where everyo...

Great comment, IW.

How about... "I don't care"? No matter my knowledge or the truth, if there is such a supreme being I will surely have no forbearance upon it. If there isn't I've wasted time worrying that there might be.

For the record I found the clip funny, a sarcastic musing as was intended.

I think on the grand scale, the main issues that the majority of Atheists have with Theism are, the lack of critical thinking, dogmatism and the herd mentality that exist in members of any given group regardless of their religious beliefs. It just happens to be that, most people exhibiting this type of behaviour are Theistic within their beliefs.

Religion: The Arrogant Belief that the Whole Universe was Created for Us.

Especially when you poll the folks from Vega IV, they really get pissy at that!

Someone once said, that since one cannot prove or disprove the existence of god(dess), that it's best not to think about it too much. Makes god(dess) sort of like Schroedinger's Cat OK for a thought experiment, but a mess if you try to put it through a real test.
