"Monkey Morality?" by Jason Rosenhouse http://scienceblogs.com/evolutionblog/2007/03/monkey_morality.php Animal "morality" isn't something new. Heck, a pod of dolphins will attack and drive off or kill a dolphin of their pod that exhibits pedophiliac tendencies. In a social science perspective it is possible to theorize that religion can produce evolutionary morality backlogs (promote immorality). Since morality is an evolutionary adaptation, as this clip suggest, institutions depending on old morality can prevent society to evolve and assume new morality if this new morality threatens their institutional power base. |
