At first I thought the title was "Wives Could Power the World ..." Oh well, I guess waves could too. Maybe wives and waves could provide a dual source of energy.

The REAL Napster
I commented on this very subject back on May 8th in one of Rachel93's clips.

Though I think this is a great idea, i have to wonder what the ramifications could be if we really did use it power the world. Using the waves energy means that the waves them selves will end up smaller and though it would take a huge amount of these devices, eventually i would think it would slow down all movement in the ocean.. From waves to tides to maybe even the weather. This could mean the water will more easily grow algae and bacteria not to mention slow the decay of dead life forms in the water. More algae means less oxygen in the water to support the life there now. I know it's a long shot, but I could see this turning out to be a really bad thing in the very long term.

That's just ludicrous to even think that. The ocean surface waves are created by wind, temps and the tides affected by the gravitational pull of the earth and moon. The ocean is a big place, and anything we could build (even in mass numbers) would not be enough to make any difference in the creation or cycle of waves. Many proposed generators are act...

People once thought it was ludicrous to think that smoking was bad for you...

I know it's far fetched and many people probably think I'm nuts for saying so, but I still think it's a possibility. Obviously if they are placing the devices on the shores, then there should be no bad affect, but I can't imagine that everyone is going to give up there shores in place of power generating devices. Of course there is plenty of places that are uninhabited in which these devices could be placed and I'm sure they would generate plenty of power. However, keeping with the title of the clip that the waves can generate enough power to power the world 2x over, I'm sure they are not basing that strictly o...

They find a way to tap an energy source and get carried away with the hype. They are missing the point. The ocean is One of the large scale energy sources we can use. There is so much untapped energy, in different media that we should be as concerned with variety than volume. It there is the glow with invention that can cause it's application to be widespread through novelty. Using something like local generators can also save a fortune in transmission costs. It's a brilliant idea, but nature has so much more to offer if we look in the right way.

I love how thoughts of simplifying and decreasing one's energy use never occur. Always more of "we Need to power X and Y and Z and .... look at all this awesome technology we have created, Progress is great." Complexify, complexify further, create more technology that acts more efficiently (but in turn that just becomes more energy to spend on something else), repeat.

Never mind me, sometimes I become a bit cynical.

no, thought provoking and I agree. Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that we can impact the entire world in the biggest way by doing the smallest things at home... like cutting the A/C up 2 degrees. Think if everyone did just that simple thing

LOL, if you do a search on ClipMarks with "Ocean Tempurature" the very next clip is "global warming is speeding up ocean waves" so there's your answer djkraz. It NEEDS to be done to slow them waves down
