Having belted my head against the brick wall when trying to teach an understanding of the process, I reckon religion probably has had a bit to do with maths - probably algebra too, if you ask many who have never developed an understanding of it. But that is the job of religion - to complicate things. Well religion did have something to do with math, as it was divinely inspired, but not necessarily the religion(s) that they are thinking off. If you where to look to the pagans (Stonehenge), the Egyptians (got to align Pharaoh's pyramid just right) and the Mayan calendar (yep, today we carve 100 hearts out!) then yes religion has inspired math. |
