invictus says: From Archaeology Magazine's November/December 2008 issue... The press here is fond of calling the site "the Turkish Stonehenge," but the comparison hardly does justice to this 25-acre arrangement of at least seven stone circles. The first structures at Göbekli Tepe were built as early as 10,000 B.C., predating their famous British counterpart by about 7,000 years. Fascinating - further reading can be had at: http://www.forteantimes.com/features/articles/449/gobekli_tepe_paradise_regained.html Thanks for the link cakebelly, a very good read with rich details. Fascinating ob both counts invictus - yes, thanks; the "Fortean Times" can usually be trusted for a great article or two. That's where I first read about Gobekli Tepe and I'm quite surprised - it being the most significant archaeological find in decades - that "Archaeological Magazine" seems to have just got round to writing it up. The frustrating thing about the discipline of archaeology is, of course, that uncovering the past takes such a long time. It could be decades before we get a complete picture of the site. Until then I will be keeping an eye out for the most recent finds. I have included a link to a page (scroll to near the bottom of the page - nothing new in the text) featuring an image of a carved vu... Cakebelly, thanks a lot for the link to the very interesting interview with Andrew Collins on Gobekli Tepe! I think Collins is one of the most important writers on "alternative history" - especially his remarkable work "Gods of Eden". Invictus - Read a couple of Andrew Collins' books; very engaging stuff; thought you might like this free electronic magazine (PDF). There is also a book up for grabs, too. http://subrosa.dailygrail.com/ Thank you cakebelly, interesting stuff. Looks like the mag is discontinued, though. Phenomenal clip! How very little we know! No clips from invictus for awhile - hope all is well |
