Interesting. Maybe Old Jimmy can finally redeem himself. Once more, with feeling: If you do not follow the Geneva Conventions yourself, they do not apply to you. By design. Thus, because the terrorists a) do not wear uniforms, and b) hide among civilian populations, and c) actively target those same civilian populations, they are NOT, in any way, protected by the Geneva Conventions. By Definition. That is _specifically_ how the Geneva Conventions were written and intended to work. Second -- Prisoners of War do not fall under the criminal justice system. POWs can be held until the war is over. No trial. No lawyers. Third -- The word "torture" has been over used to the point that it is practically meaningless. Let's compare: Under Sadda... @strider If what you say is true and the Geneva Convention does not apply, because "a) do not wear uniforms, and b) hide among civilian populations, and c) actively target those same civilian populations," then they are civilian criminals. As civilian criminals then they should tried in civilian courts, be in civilian prisons and be given attorneys, all of which they are not allowed. They are either one or the other, but currently the administration is denying them their rights under either military or civilian systems. The administration can't have it both ways and not be law breakers themselves! And Blackwater wears no military uniform. Blackwater seem to be above the military. They haven't denied torture as much as the have been spinning rhetoric, and insane justification, for their unique and singular defenition. They don't ever describe what torture is apart from the qualification that it is whatever they are not doing. It's getting worse all of the time. Get radical! Ron Paul for President 2008! http://www.ronpaul2008.com How would we know if a person is truly guilty of a crime, If there is no evidence of a crime being committed, therefore how could you justify torcher? So you judge a person from what color they are, from what they ware, or what language they speak. What is justice when you kill an unarmed man, who has commit no crime, with no evidence to prove guilt? Who should be guilty of wartime crimes, who inflicted pain and discomfort to a person who committed no crime. Without evidence there is no proof, therefore how can a man be tried? Who is the real criminal? The law applies to everyone ! |
