maybe for little quarels between two persons ok, but for a group, for an entire nation that has been persecuted? should we forgive??? forgiving isn't possible because it is giving the chance to a new persecution. this may work only for an individual and for a little arguing but there are things that musn't be forgiven. this cant become a theory

Annaannaanna, I'm sorry to hear you think that forgiving isn't possible. People can -and should- forgive people. Nations can also forgive nations. When that doesn't happen, the result is normaly war.

Forgiveness requires remorse.If we forgive people who don't have remorse, there remains the fear that the same thing may happen again.We have to be careful not to take personally, what can just be a reflection of the character of the offending party. We don't need to forgive people for our conscience, we need to forgive for theirs.

Still, if you don't think you'll see someone again, you can give the the benefit of the doubt.

Great clip Mug. One can and should, for the sake of one's own mental well-being, forgive, but that must NEVER be confused with forgetting.

I equate not forgiving with hating and hating is the most corrosive emotion of all.. One can spend one's day and nights hating someone until one's mental health becomes fragile and eventually fails while the person or persons hated go blissfully about their lives with no effects, mentally or otherwise.
That said forgiveness ofttimes does not come easily..

Personally I hate certain political philosophies, and certainly I hate any form of injustice and I hate hurtful acts, but I only feel pity for those who promote these things because I know they are mentally ill. and/or very badly informed.

Nice way to put all together. Personaly, I took the "H" word out of my vocabulary and I try to make everyone that uses that word to think twice before saying it. Many times people says "I hate" when they mean "I don't like" or "I despise". Those feelings are OK. Hating though, destroys the "hater" but does nothing against the "hated".
