There is an aspect of Eucalyptus growth and regeneration, that could almost be called the Phoienix Principle. Very often eucalypts require Fire to allow the seeds to germinate. The Australian Aboriginals in their use of the land, would often 'back burn' to clear tinder, and germinate new plants. after a fire The trees that remain recover quickly, and there is room, and fertilizer to allow new plants to grow. Without backburning, or strict monitoring, undergrowth can fuel an inferno that can incineratel existing trees, and seeds. Eucalyptus oil has a Flash point of 49 Degrees C. Fire is common in Australia, and has draws a treendous amount of water from the soil. It has been planted in some areas to lower the water table, and drain swamps. Such drainage can destroy ecologically productive areas
