How long has it been from when we found out about the poor care of our Veterans? Do you think they did anything about that? I know they haven`t. Can you say " Hoodwinked ". Holding the office from 1948 to 1960, Frank Zeidler, a leading US Socialist, was one of Milwaukee's most successful and respected mayors. Why do I refer to him as being so successful? Here is part of his linked Wikipedia entry: During Frank Zeidler's administration, Milwaukee grew industrially and never had to borrow money to repay loans. During this period, Milwaukee nearly doubled its size with a very aggressive campaign of municipal annexations. Large parts of the Town of Lake and most of the Town of Granville were annexed to the city during this era. The park system was upgraded. Federal funding was obtained to complete the ... And there are some of us who view health care as a right. Every time I hear someone demonizing single payer health care I wonder how deep they are in debt to the insurance and pharmacological lobbies. My view is that health care ought to be entirely free to all citizens. Instead of characterizing this as socialized medicine I would view it as ethical medicine. Is food a right? Is transportation a right? Is housing a right? Is a 72" plasma screen TV a right? Ah hell, why work, don't you just have right to get a check from the government every month? "Health care is a right". Please. That is the most petty, crybaby mentalities I have heard. You need insurance? GET SOME! Are you a insurance salesman Willhelm? Is food a right?Food stamps. Is transportation a right?Public transportation. Is housing a right?Public housing. Is a 72" plasma screen TV a right? No. Ah hell, why work, don't you just have right to get a check from the government every month? Some folks need this. "Health care is a right". Please. That is the most petty, crybaby mentalities I have heard. So this is your "argument". Not so good. You need insurance? GET SOME!Don't need insurance. I have it. A lot of people don't and can't afford it. Get a life! altlib, that comment displayssuch ignorance about rights, responsibilites, and welfare. Welfare is not a right. If they are rights, then why doesn't everyone get them regardless of income? Why doesn't everyone get free housing regarless of income? Why doesn't everyone receive free income regarless of income? Why doesn't everyone receive free food regardless of income? If they are rights, then why do I not have the same rights as others that get those things free? EVERONE can get catastrophic coverage very, very cheaply - Less than $25/ month, some much more cheaply. I think even a very poor person in America can spring that. In fact, I know they can. It is a matter of responsibility. EVERONE can get catastrophic coverage very, very cheaply - Less thanOh really? And you know this how? My beliefs differ from yours. I believe government should be in the business of helping people. You don't. I base my beliefs on moral grounds. I've been down this road before and know that I am not going to change your beliefs and you might consider that you are not going to change my beliefs. So instead of indulging your ego with ad hominem attacks why not consider just leaving it alone? It would save us both a considerable amount of time. If socialized medicine is so bad, why won't the government allow U.S. citizens to buy it from abroad, where it's cheaper? They allow corporations to hire from abroad, moving jobs out of the country. They allow corporations to buy from abroad where it's cheaper. They allow corporations to set up off-shore companies to avoid paying American taxes, even though they're American companies. Capitalism is going strong, even at the expense of the American people. Why, then, won't they allow the American people to buy medicine from abroad? It is capitalism at its finest! If an American pharmaceutical sells a drug in Mexico far cheaper than in America, why are Americans forced to buy ONLY... For the most part I'm in agreement with your comment AL. The unhealthy marriage between politics and big business. while good for the bottom line, has almost wiped out the middle class in this country. This administration is the poster child for corporate welfare. Who pays? The working poor who keep increasing in number. We have "socialized" many important functions in our society. Law enforcement, fire, food safety, air traffic control. If they are allowed to do their job without ideologues taking control they seem to function well. We run into problems (i.e. Blackwater and other "contractors in Iraq") when private companies (read that “cronies”) are put into play with no oversight and litt... We have "socialized" many important functions in our society. Law enforcement, fire, food safety, air traffic control. If they are allowed to do their job without ideologues taking control they seem to function well.Definitely agree. We run into problems (i.e. Blackwater and other "contractors in Iraq") when private companies (read that “cronies”) are put into play with no oversight and little regulation.Definitely agree! The Right keeps dragging out the scary monster of socialism for the sole purpose of lining the pockets of the lobbyists who contribute to their campaigns. The cycle must stop.Again, most definitely agree. I am not afraid o... But my point is simply that, if they are not going to allow socialismCan't argue with that. And I'm not anti-capitalist. It would be more correct to say I'm anti-corporatist. Corporations need regulation. We see what happens when they and government become too chummy. At present the power brokers are keeping us from benefiting from either. And that's just wrong.Like a wise man said, "follow the money". Perhaps in a few decades the people will finally get to see what a complete f&cktard Bush and his crime family really are. This nightmare can't be over soon enough. I hope it's not too late. |
