Wonderful and creative, it would never come to pass in the vast majority of the US. Why? Building codes wouldn't allow it. US? Land of the free and home of the zoned.

I'm pretty sure that I saw this being constructed on a TV show (UK) sometime ago; or one very much like it - looks even better on a tv screen.
