Every Presidential candidate tries to pick a VP that would help in the election. McCain has no more 'lust for office' than anyone else running for the job. If you look at the European stunt of Obama, and the Olympic speech event (or speech event that looked like Olympics) - it's clear who really 'lusts for office' between them.

The fact that she has such an appeal in her own state, certainly energized the Republicans in very short order, and is certainly responsible to a degree, perhaps large degree, to his latest poll bump - clearly an indication that he made the choice that worked for him as any candidate...

All of that of course pisses off the left because they expected the messiah to be without any serious competition. And now he has it, and it's not even his job rival, but a subordinate and she's a minority, which is supposed to be only championed by the left... all of a sudden the world is upside down for the Dems, in a matter of days.

Nobody knows of course exactly how this will play out in the end, but what is dishonorable is making these silly notions about the pick, where by any measure the pick did exactly what the pick was intended to do. You're just pissed that your guy wasn't smart enough to pick a woman with 18million votes, and instead picked a guy who was rejected by your own base... twice so far.

If you don't want to be sore losers - pick the right candidates, i.e. winners with better approval ratings than the 9% your Congress gets... as you can see from McCain's example - they do exist and it's not that difficult, just your basic math. 80%+ is always better than 9%.
