Back when I listened to talk radio, I would tune in to AA sometimes. I'd anticipated the highlight would be Chuck D raining righteous sermons down through the airwaves about things like Elvis, Hollywood and institutional racism...like in the old Public Enemy days. But apparently either middle age or corporate policy squelched all the fire that made him such an icon to begin with. Disappointing. The next best thing AA had going for it was the feisty, well-read and articulate (though not-so-focused) Janeane Garafalo. Now that she's left to pursue a Hollywood career again, I can't see AA has much going for it. IMO, any station that tries to build its identity around the likes of Randi Rhodes or Al Franken is destined to lose eventually. Oh come on, Kore! Until recently, Ed Shultz was carried on Air America, along with Thom Hartman, which would be reason enough to tune in. |
