There's this movie that been coming on cable (and I have also rented it some time ago) called "The Final Cut" where these characters hire a guy to cut out "bad" memories and "refresh" good memories. In the end, the point was that we (and those around us) are the sum of the good as well as the bad so "forgetting" bad memories can actually end up with far too many unintended consequences.

For myself I can say that my bad memories have made me a better person, but there are some people who can't go on with the bad...the thing is, if they forget, what then? Are they doomed to repeat those things? (for instance, as one commenter referred to soldiers in Iraq...my husband just came back from his...
