But Obama's election will be also a triumph in our American History. Although his political ideas are nothing about being black,his political issues nothing about being black -- it seem's he is black (gasp!) and there is significance in that. (He's actually half-black).

Going from slavery, going through another great generation that fought the Civil war, going through ...

Going from slavery, going through another great generation that fought the Civil war, going through Jim Crow and the struggle for simple (but powerful) Voting Rights...and now on the verge of being elected a President of the United States of America...well, that is some trip, some incredible victory for that Black part of America...that Black part of our American culture...to go from slavery to the highest, most powerful political leadership of a nation.

Maybe this idea, too, might make grandpa feel even better and addresses the question of "is he up to the challenge?"

#1 > The long gauntlet of the elections is a good experience and trial by fire for any candidate.

#2 > Winning these elections is the final qualification and it shows, no matter who you are, that you were able to get a majority of American people on your side.

That takes organization (not just talk) & many other skills that are actually the skills a president must have (even the darn skill of working all day after day after day, looking good, keeping a smile on your face and handling one crisis or problem after another.)

Up to the job? It's amazing how many of our ex-Presidents, when out of office, confess to finding the office nearly un-endurable and way beyond anything they imagined or ever had to do before.

Presidents have to rise to the challenge.
