A drug used to prevent rejections in transplants-CellCept has prompted the FDA to warn it can cause hormone reduction, reducing birth control drug efficiency, and cause birth defects. Patients who are being prescribed this drug should have a negative pregnancy test within a week of starting treatment, and be counseled on effective birth control and related health risks.
