ratilfar says: A choke point is a narrowing of an international waterway to a distance of less than 24 miles (38 km), necessitating the drawing of a median line (maritime) boundary. These are almost always strategic locations where, presumably, a blockading naval force could "choke" off the waterway. Examples are the Hormuz Strait between Oman and Iran at the entrance to the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Malacca between Malaysia and Indonesia, the Bab-el-Mandeb passage from the Arabian Sea to the Red Sea, the Panama Canal and the Panama Pipeline connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the Suez Canal and the Sumed Pipeline connecting the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea, and the Turkish Straits/Bosporus linking the Black Sea (and oil coming from the Caspian Sea region) to the Mediterranean Sea. Great clip It's amazing how USA Americans have now all become experts in weapons, terrorist, and love to sit around and watch TV about plans for attack other nations. It does make for good TV, that's for sure, but sometime I think not only is this the only way Yanks learn geography but that we won't understand the plots of any shows or stories that don't have people running around with guns, or don't start off with hidious crimes. I hear you , citizenbfk, They also like to sit around pretending to be experts in analyzing the best way for their own country to be defeated. Imagining themselves to be strategists and knowledgeable in intelligence matters and details thereof, they invest a lot of energy into killing the national morale. Things that are obvious to anyone upon first glance at a map, they point out as crucial tactical discoveries as they trounce the abilities of their own country. First since its not my country, I care not if its defeated or not. Second, this is merely a discussion about the realities and possibilities on the ground, especially if the U.S. chooses to attack Iran. The fact that you don't want to discuss them and instead turn to empty talk of victory/defeat as if the only way the U.S. could loose its because people talk about it shows that you neither understand the underlying realities of the situation or care to learn about them. I guess ignorance is bliss.... As for Citizen comments...well I am not a viewer of 24 is that what you mean. And this is, at least for me, not an all of the sudden thing. I've been interested in military affairs for well... |
