Long before Gold (40 years or so), who was an astronomer, not a geologist, the theory of deep inorganic petroleum formation was developed profoundly by hundreds of Soviet scientists from the thermodynamics up to practical drilling and discovering numerous oil deposits in crystalline basement, volcanic rocks and other geological environments where the standard "organic" methodology would have never been employed.
