So, one more time: There is a place for Christian symbols. That place is in Christian churches and in Christian homes. We Christians are in the majority; we can find lots of places to display our symbols. Public buildings are not among them. That is the last line from the story, I mostly agree with it as long as all other religious symbols are also excluded from public buildings. Actually, the whole fight was started mostly by the ACLU, but hey, don't let facts get in the way or anything. The title itself was intended to 'start a fight' I suppose. I ignored it for a while cause I didn't want to add fuel to the fire. I view it as Christians wanting to *keep* the freedoms of public expression that they've always had in the US; not forcing others to enter in. But that's just my take on the issue. As far as the "fight", I think I see a shift in the tide. People who are serious about their Christianity are pretty sick of the pettiness, the attacks, the slander. I foresee withdrawing back into our Christian Communities and letting the 'world' be the 'world' and the Church being a source of help and solace to those who want and need it. Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing... Actually, the ACLU has done a lot to protect the rights of religious groups, including Christians, but, hey, don't let facts get in the way or anything. Pffft, the ACLU has done more to damage free religious speech than any organization in the country. |
