That's indeed a demasking formulation! There is a US-American "we"; then there is a gap; and then there are the others, and Muslims belong to them, including the 1,500,000 Muslim citizens of the U.S.A.
I know some US-American Muslims and some German Muslims; all of them feel belonging respectively to the US-American or to the German society. Wordings as above redline them.
