Same here clock wise. And when did they start saying
ANTI-clockwise. I'm from old school.
COUNTER-clockwise.

No way...she's going counter-clockwise.

For me, it's clockwise.

That is weird, it just seems to go back and forth between clockwise and counter.

even with all my concentration trying to reverse her, all I get is clockwise...

i've come across this image many times. and been frustrated by it (or rather by my inability to see her rotate clockwise). today i finally managed! now i can make her turn whichever way i want! HA! outsmarted the mesmerising rotating silhouette! this has just made my day.

I can't even begin to see it move counter clockwise... :| All I see is clockwise...

oh god. i got her to go the other way and then i couldn't make her go back again.... does this mean I'm going to change my vote come november?

She's not moving at all - she's just standing there with one foot in the air.

cptenaud, it's always been anti-clockwise outside the US.

NOW I can see her go both ways. (:lol

Clockwise and up and down as well.

My first impression was that she was twirling counterclockwise. Then I concentrated on the image for a few seconds and she started twirling clockwise. But then I couldn't get her to twirl counterclockwise again, no matter how much I concentrated! What does that say about me?

I give up! I can only see her going clockwise. My mom & my nephew only see it clockwise, as well. I can never see the pictures in those 3-D pictures either.

I could see Anticlockwise, and had trouble with clockwise, until I looked at her feet.

I feel ripped off, I so so so want to see her going both ways, I feel like you are all in a conspiracy together, those of you that see her anti clockwise, you must be kidding! For me it is clockwise all the way...

I would see her turning counter-clockwise, but when I would stare and then sometimes blink, she'd be going clock-wise...then blink again and she's back counter.... :~) Surely, it's a trick.

Always clockwise for me at first. Every once in a while it changes but usually changes back real fast. It's a weird effect. You can stare at it for a long time.

Is it me or does she slow down right before she changes directions?
10-18-2007 12:15 AM

i can see it moving in both directions
i can even manage to try it back and fro without rotating a complete circle when i blink my eyes !!

OMG, I did it! I was clockwise, but I made it switch to counter-clockwise by staring at another spot on the page for awhile and looking at it out of the corner of my eye while concentrating on it moving backwards. The weird thing is that I can change the direction of her top half first, but it takes awhile for me to make the bottom half match. What in the world could that mean?
10-18-2007 1:51 AM
CoviwinklesNo1Fan
Yeh! it changes between clockwise and anti for me!

left brain or right clockwise or counter what is most important is 2 let the DANCE go on ....

good point, nonstatquo! we should be careful with these optical illusions - they may influence us in more ways than we give them credit for!

the moment i stopped trying to change the direction
(anitclockwise)the movement reversed.
kind of weird why and how that happens.
But probably the moment you do not name the movement, the brain only sees a movement but does not discriminate between left/right counter/clock aso.
but then again it even could be that the direction indeed changes.
some also might say in one paralell universe it goes clockwise in another is goes anticlockwise.
oddly i like it better when it goes clockwise

Remember that the right eye is controlled by the left hemisphere, and the left eye by the right hemisphere. To make her change directions do not concentrate on doing so. If you want to see her going clockwise just close your right eye. In a few seconds the direction will reverse as the brain adjusts to new input. It might not work for everyone but try it and see. But remember not to concentrate on making it happen.

LOL, I could only see her going counter clock wise. Then I clicked on her and dragged the mouse (with the x in the circle) and let go. Guess what! She changed directions! Didn't mean to cheat, I did it out of fustration. Then I made her go the other way doing the same thing. Now let me see if I can change her direction staring at a spot on the picture instead of her.

I got her to go both ways in my brain, but counter clockwise was the first impression, and it took awhile to get her to go the other way, but I looked away and then she changed. awesome.

By focusing on her lifted leg, I just got her to stop turning and sway back and forth! The possibilities are endless...

She turns clockwise and aticlockwise for I can even see her her half turn left and right Ithink I got my reasons sight very keen and not full others

at first she was going clockwise, which supposedly means i'm right brained, although i'm fairly certain im left-brained.

i could NOT get her to change...finally somehow i did.

but i realized that if you stop her (clicking and dragging mouse), you can focus on whether her up leg is pointing away from you or pointing towards you and change it by that. i think.

Mostly clockwise here, with effort to get it the other way.

Current research shows that we are neither right or left brain. This test has been proven invalid. We use both sides of the brain--the two halves talk to each other. Yes, in the instance of left or right handedness, eye dominance, the one side plays a dominant part--I'm left handed and I can get the dancer to turn both directions, just by moving her into my peripheral vision or by looking
away and then looking back. I'd say its a nifty optical illusion.
10-19-2007 4:20 AM
gramo
Ditto. Normally she goes clockwise, but if I use my peripheral vision or look away for a moment I can get her to switch. Also if I stare peripherally, I can will her to swing back & forth without doing a complete circle. I can't believe I'm doing this at this hour instead of brushing my teeth and going to bed!

While neat, I'm not convinced that there isn't a randomized timer programmed to shift direction. The use of black and white w/ high contrast makes it harder to spot and question whether or not it actually happened. However, great job in the subject selection. What else could be better to look at while deciding whether or not you are logical or emotional.
10-19-2007 10:52 AM
leagh
If I focus on her head a shoulder area she changes directions.

I don't see any dancer

Actually, I only saw her turning counter-clockwise, but I only glanced at it for a second.

I can switch her movement from clockwise to counterclockwise and back again. I think this is why I have problems moving back and forth between writing fiction and creating computer graphics. At times, there's a mini war going on inside my brain for which side will be dominant in the moment. When the struggle is fiercest it puts a block on doing either.
10-19-2007 7:34 PM
Lyra20
What does it mean when you stop the movement all together?. I did that two times in less than a minute. She completely stopped moving and then started again in the opposite direction, both my eyes were open.
10-19-2007 8:36 PM

If you see her going clockwise try to think about something that happened in the past, like yesterday while starring at her, then blink. she should start spinning counterclockwise meaning your using your left brain side.she changed for me at least.
10-19-2007 9:14 PM
Rustee
If you watch just her planted foot by scrolling the page to block the rest, much of the dimension isn't as apparent and the foot appears to only face away and just go left and right in a repetitive half circle. From there it's easier to enforce your own continuation of rotation either way you want, then scroll up.
10-20-2007 4:15 AM
maldec
Quick way to change rotation is to move your head (swivel-action) in the direction you want her to turn whilst looking at her feet. Warning, don't crook your neck!!

clockwise for me and then I found it tricky to see it clockwise again once I saw it counter clockwise...if you know what I mean???

Clockwise for me, but at one point I focused and it switched directions for a second.

I am brain injured, having strokes on the left side of my brain. When I first look at the spin it, it is moving clockwise, then it changes to counter clockwise. Before my strokes I had been full-brained, neither right-brained nor left-brained. face it, I'm just smart. ha ha. But I can change it to go in either direction almost a will. (there is a slight delay).
10-20-2007 6:00 PM
Reddragonlady
After watching it on and off for a couple of days, I can change her direction any time I want. I think that it just takes a bit of practice.
10-20-2007 7:45 PM
RecordSage
It's interesting that the direction can be changed. Instead of staring at her directly, try to scroll down (move the page up), so you only see her from the corner of your eye (look at the text, so she's more in a peripheral vision area) and you should see her change direction.

At least that seems to work for me... as much as I tried to look directly and see any change in direction - it was definitely clockwise, but when I scrolled a tad all of a sudden she changed, scrolling back and looking directly did the change again.
10-20-2007 8:52 PM
hudgal1
It would seem to me that the whole point is to see what your initial intuition is, not whether you can make her change at will by staring long enough. Wouldn't that make the whole exercise kind of pointless? I could be wrong though.
10-20-2007 9:42 PM
Reddragonlady
Awww, hudgal1! Sure, that was the whole point--but look at all the fun we've been having since!

Its a con. she swaps from clockwise to anit clockwise wvery so often, Not very funny really ,but loads of you have been fooled so easily!!!

Dear God!!!

I find it interesting that my initial instinct was counter-clockwise, since I had a left-brain stroke about 5 years ago, and yet my left hemisphere is still stronger. I must TRULY be a math nerd

YOOOO!!!! that was so cool, i could make it spin either way after a while, lol...i felt like i was controlling it. lol.

I see her nipples erect. What side am I on?
10-21-2007 4:57 PM

LOL!
She's moving BOTH ways. The transition is just so perfectly made, that it leaves you unsure of your senses. Don't worry, she's moving clockwise, then switches to counter-clokwise, then back to clockwise, etc... All you need to do is concentrate on the image 100%, look at her extended leg - you'll see the moment she halts in place for a split second, and then continues in another direction.
Nicely made

I have to question this test because I have done tests like this and they all say I think with the left side. I can't see it go counter-clockwise and I've tried many times.

I could see she's moving both ways!!!! It depends how I wanna see.

Are you people on drugs, its a still image, no movement at all . or is there a play button I'm not seeing. Or maybe I'm brain dead.
10-25-2007 1:43 AM

Yeah, and somebody is fooling us. If you really watch carefully, you'll actually see her switching around in direction. Watch the arms and the hips

I had to download the image to see it animate. I have my browser set to not play animations. It's an animated .gif with 34 frames, and if you do a frame-by frame analysis, you can catch the exact frames at which you can shift the perspective to make the rotation appear to change.

Very nice !! xD

anti-clockwise for me , i'm trying to focus to change the direction but it's so hard .........

I got a better trick of seeing it both "clockwise" and "counter-clockwise." Just keep switching your winks. Wink with your left-eye and then wink with your right-eye.

I think this is more a test about the blind spots in your brain rather than a test about whether you are a left-brain thinker or right-brain thinker. You might have to resort to another test to find that out.

I guess you can come to one conclusion though, like at the moment when you see the picture at first sight. If she's spinning clockwise, then your right-brain reacts faster than your left-brain and vice versa if you see it counter-clockwise. But that's about it.
10-25-2007 8:31 PM

At first glance i saw it clockwise ,then it switched to anticlockwise then it went back.-interesting.

It was first counter clockwise and then clockwise. That makes me a little strange.

I saw her turn clockwise for a while, then about... ten seconds later she turned the other way. I clicked the image and it started to go clockwise again but I can also seem to reverse it with my head and not clicking it... *shrug* If I can find my animation program I want to see if I can tell if it does go both ways in the individual slides...
10-27-2007 4:35 PM
xxguitartabzxx
Winking back and forth from the left-eye to the right-eye continuously gives you more control over which direction she spins. Everybody should try that. It work!

Dang, I thought it was widdershins! It goes both ways for me; clockwise and widdershins.

Counter Clock wise for default for me(I'm left-handed), and I can turn it clockwise and then it takes a while to reset.

It's fun, but I doubt it proves much
