Because CNN and MSNBC are so straight? They're all playing the same game, and we're all falling for it. Doesn't anyone take news with a grain assault... I mean... of salt anymore?

Good point. They are all looking over their shoulders to see what the other is doing. Salt very apt. Blind leading the blind.
