JICWyllie says: Fascism has always portrayed itself as the antidote to economic collapse. To think that the US is on the road to fascism today only demonstrates how little appreciation the current generation has for history. It only shows how small is their grasp of language and the tendency they have to trivialize grand concepts. Everything today is a step towards dictatorship, holocaust or global collapse. It is a shame that we have let the education system so badly shortchange these folks. No, the shame is that so many people have their eyes closed to the corruption of our ideals and rulers. The shame is that the few would allow their greed to be fed at the cost of the many. The shame is that so many feel it acceptable to close their eyes to reality. The handwriting is on the wall, just few are stoping to read it. There is a difference between greed or corruption and fascism. The Left's constant whining to define down despotism (only when it applies to a Republican administration in the US, of course) will only serve to foster a 'boy who cried wolf' attitude if and when fascism ever does come to our shores. The Left will have done more to pave the way for our enslavement than any 'wicked' neocon. I read somewhere that the Bush family profited well during WW2 by continuing to trade with Nazi Germany. Call it fascism, if you want an historical term. Call it globalisation or the New World Order, if you want to be more contemporary. The thing I can't figure out is whether the economic collapse, including Banks losing money, is part of the Great New American Century plan, or will it be what finally scuppers it. And just who, in our government, in our political candidates, is doing anything to change the course? We need to be pro-active set aside partisanships and realize what we have to do, before it is too late, and hopefully that time hasn't already passed. Naomi writes more on the topic and her book here, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/naomi-wolf/finally-action-ron-pau_b_69042.html and urges Americans to sign the Freedom Pledge, found here http://www.americanfreedomcampaign.org/ Narrowing focus on dem-rep as the totality of politics is a problem. I'm inferring that in US 'left wing' means dem supporter. This narrow strip of discourse works against a more totalised, deamericanised and truly internationalist perspective and agenda. |
