You conflate Republican with Conservative, and then suggest Democrats are the opposite of both, which is overly simplistic. In the sense suggested here, which I think is worth careful consideration, FDR was conservative as well because he was able to preserve the U.S. system, for better or worse, in the face of some horrific alternatives. Obama is clearly much better prepared than McCain to do something similar in the next few years. McCain is simply another thinly disguised Reaganite unable to see beyond narrow class interest, just like Hoover. Righttt... a publisher of the National Review is a closet Democrat. Good analysis.
