Oortcloud says: One commenter said : "Wow, this is really a low point in the honor and integrity of our armed forces. The more we remove ourselves from the moral responsibility of taking human life, the more we will be willing to take it without regar to the consequences" That already happens, its called "collateral damage" and you are blind if you don't recognize the extent of it now. What that commenter wants is honorable arena style fighting with respect and glory. That is romanticism, not war. That already happens, its called "collateral damage" and you are blind if you don't recognize the extent of it now.Ye, it's probably 50/50 if it's a 'collateral' or 'intended' with all the rounds that go off presently. What will happen when a robot massacres a large group of innocents? Promotion, court marshal, decommissioning, refit, confined to base? Just so you know, these things don't run on AI - they are remote controlled by soldiers. If they massacre a large group of innocents its not because the machine went crazy. They also have signal delay safety and only fire if the signal is immediate (no pulling the trigger and connection lag making the machine fire many seconds later) - as well as a kill switch if it malfunction. In the end the operator is responsible. |
