alanocu says: Sustainable, Ecological and Agricultural Skyscrapers - One man’s vision has sparked a series of designs leading closer and closer to what will be the first real-life vertical urban farm in Las Vegas, Nevada of all places. Here are five of these remarkable architectural designs for sustainable (and stylish) urban farm towers that may revolutionize agriculture as we know it. In the long run such structures may not only provide food for hundreds of thousands of people per building but they will also relieve much of the burden on other flat landscapes where fewer and fewer usable growing spaces exist. This might sound far-fetched, but a large piece of the planet's land is already in use and not all of it can be used to grow crops. In the next few decades, population increases - the next place to go is up. So cool. I wish I had a space for a big garden. Smart idea. That sounds good. In the city where I, live a family living on a huge lot had to get rid of their few (less than 5) chickens they were raising for their eggs. They cleaned the coop everyday so there was no smell but the city said it was a health hazard and they had to go. The children were heart-broken. I'm for technology advancements in society. this is the best clip i ever seen. I most definitely will read up on this. it is stated in the UN published “state of the world population” that in 2008 the world reached a momentous milestone: that more than half of the total human population (3.3 billion) will be living in urban areas. This figure is staggering as most of the people moving out of the rural areas will fall in the category of the urban poor. There is sufficient land in USA and Africa, the question are there sufficient people to utilise the land. With an ever growing population moving in to the urban centres your urban environment becomes stress and the rural environment neglected. This type of development and into the mixing pot has the potential to stir thing up even more. One thing indoor agriculture in energy intensive, what type of produce will these greenhouses produce: clearly not natural most likely GM. And the jury is still out on the effects GM produce has on humans and the environment. By moving you farms to urban centres, you are not truly address the problem of urban migration. Brimstone, I was pretty amazed by this concept after reading the article; thanks for the good comments. |
