olivier says: Looks like Google is ready to enter the online note taking/clipping market nice to know we're inspiring the folks at google...what took them so long?? I've been trying to access it since yesterday. There must be an incredible amount of traffic!! Yet, one weblog which initially reported it took the link off later on in the day. i think they said that it will be live next week some time. as you can imagine, i'm real curious about it myself. i've already received a number of emails from people asking me how i feel about it. surprisingly, i'm excited by it. i think it shows that the era of clipping has begun and i'm proud of what we've done so far. we have so much left to accomplish and i'm excited to give it our best. i think that if we do our job well then clipmarks will gain an important place for itself on the web...regardless of what google does. this might sound totally crazy, but i look forward to seeing what they've got and what you all think. bottom line, i think we can take 'em With the likes of invictus, kore, Kj, Sage and of course myself on your side, you can't lose. That's not to leave out all the other fine clipmarks users. I just mentioned the ones on the forefront of my mind which seems to be a dwlndling area as of late. Well, if clicking on the supplied link is any indication - you guys have nothing to worry about Besides, reading the description it doesn't sound precisely as Clipmarks, it's more of a note-taking with clipping... with emphasis on note-taking... perhaps I'm off... we'll wait and see when they get past 404 page. bottom line, i think we can take 'emThat's the spirit! Besides, it doesn't sound like they have jets, ocean liners, or a world tour in the works like we do here! i agree Wolf. the way i see it, Google can build a better tool than us any day of the week. so can microsoft, yahoo and any other multi gazillion dollar company with thousands of engineers. what we're trying to create (and by "we" i mean all of us) here is more of an experience than a tool. and as far as that's concerned, i think we've got a fighting chance to go head to head with anybody. Google or Yahoo or Microsoft Live, when it comes to bookmarks and managing personal data (add networking as well) none of them have lived up to the "expereince" one could get out of Clipmarks or Digg. The tools are not critical, the soul is. But when it comes to tools we use on individual basis, calendar, email, etc, I think they have hands down monopoly over any startup right now or in future. Well Microsoft acquire Onfolio to get the capability to handle the clipping functions. No word yet on how they are connecting this too MS Live, but word is that they intend to incorporate a desktop/web hybrid with Onfolio. That leave Yahoo with a missing part (look out Eric - they could be looking for an acquisition). This Google notebook is interesting...be interesting to see it when it is out. Heck if they offer an API, perhaps Clipmarks could Leverage it somehow like they have done with Delicious and Magnolia. I don't know what Googke Notebook features there will be, but I like the idea of a Notebook or a Notepad online, where I can keep a journal (not a blog, private please), where I can choose which notes I share or not, where I can insert clips from the hard drive or the web... like an online based Evernotes and better. Clipmarks could do it. just add a Notebook or Notepad to each user account and display all their clips one below the other, and add the option of emailing any note or clip to anyone (the actual note or clip, not a URL please). Can you do it guys?????? Nice idea London. I had thought about something similar with Clipmarks, where in the BOARD one could check off clips they have and either export to local machine (not sure if it would be XML or something else) or allow the ability to send those slected to Delicious or magnolia or to BACKUP to an online storage site. Also the ability to include or exclude comments on the clips. I know LOTS to ask for....but I think no one else has these features yet. Not sure what Evernote exports or Exports, but their product is better then onfolio and perhaps a comapny ClipMarks could talk to about partnering up with???? All good ideas, no doubt. We have a pretty major upload coming pretty soon. I'm as excited about what we'll be introducing in the next 1,2,3 and 4 weeks as i've ever been about any upload. After that, i'd love to take a 20,000ft perspective of what's next. I've already got a pretty massive wish list of my own, but i'm trying to stay focused on the current series of things. I hope you'll all feel really good about what we've been working on. In the mean time, keep the great ideas coming...we're listening! Agh I left one of my favorite users out of my list which is why I hate making them. ROB I LOVE YOU TOO! Figuratively speaking of course. Hmm...ok BBW...not sure that direct of a statement was required, but the context is understood Can you feel the love in here?! (Can't blame Rich for getting caught up in it...) Nothing like a looming threat from an outside source to put away petty squables and unite us all on our one shared commonality: Clipatriotism. |
