I ride a bicycle, but only on a bike'walking trail. I realize some areas don't have a bike trail, but really, to get out and ride on a road with cars, when cars have such large blind spots, or where something on the car's dash the size of a pack of cigarettes can hide a bicycle rider from view--I just don't understand bike riders who play Russian roulette with their lives. I was hit by a car while a senior in high school and haven't ridden on a road since. Fortunately, I wasn't seriously hurt, because the driver was trying to slow and miss me, but I've never ridden on a road with cars again. And bike riders demanding 3 foot lanes on roads is ridiculous, when all states have roads with narrow, twisting roads, no shoulders and bikers have the audacity to want the cars to miss them when they are riding on one of those roads, that frankly don't have room for the 2 cars to go past each other in their lanes. I live in a rural area where those are the only kinds of roads we have, and every time I see or meet a bike rider on one of these roads, I cringe, because I know there is not enough room for my car in the lane, let alone a bike and car.

Seventeen years ago, my wife, an experienced athlete and bicyclist, who is very familiar with the rules of the road, was struck from behind by an automobile driven by a relative of a police officer.

I received a call from the hospital emergency room that she was unconscious and might not pull through.
Fortunately, thanks to her superior physical condition, she has fully recovered.

The accident-scene investigating police officer, who was not present at the time, despite the evidence that my wife's bike was hit directly in the back and there were skid marks that indicated a panic braking attempt by the driver of the car (the driver had 9 points on...

I received a call from the hospital emergency room that she was unconscious and might not pull through.
Fortunately, thanks to her superior physical condition, she has fully recovered.

The accident-scene investigating police officer, who was not present at the time, despite the evidence that my wife's bike was hit directly in the back and there were skid marks that indicated a panic braking attempt by the driver of the car (the driver had 9 points on his license, and numerous suspensions for speeding), he issued a traffic summons to my wife, a mother of three young boys.

It was several weeks after the judge fined her $300 that I learned that the one who hit her, was the brother of a police officer.

Several years later, I sent pictures of the investigating officer to the County Police, showing him interacting inappropriately with young girls, who appeared to be about 13 years of age.

Last night, when my wife and I went out for dinner, the investigating police officer, no longer on the force, was at his usual spot outside the restaurant, where he has been for about 10 or so years now, panhandling the patrons.

I gave him five bucks, as I always do.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.
