It may be in the best interests of Obama & the international community, but NOT in the best of the Israelis. Israel is surrounded by a "terror base". Giving Hamas a state, complete with all that would entail, is insanity. Saying things differently or using diplomatic-speak doesn't change that. Hamas is exactly like the Taliban and Somalia war lords.

In order to have peace between these two very different ideologies both sides need to be tolerant of the other.

Neither side is sincere about pursuing it therefore I don't see it happening. The only reason the topic of peace ever gets mentioned there is because the US feels some moral obligation to make it so.
