The point of the article, however, is that we all lie -- probably more than we'd like to admit. The article then goes on to mention two types of lies: self-centered and other centered. I'd have to disagree with this, as I think all lying is ultimately self-centered. But than I hold to the philosophy that everything we do is ultimately self-centered. Anything we do that benefits others we only do because doing so also directly or indirectly benefits ourselves. The lies we tell to "spare others' feelings", we really tell because we don't want to deal with the repercussions of hurting their feelings -- even if the only repercussion is a lingering feeling of guilt for having done so. There was also (at least) one particular type of lie that I noticed wasn't specifically covered in the article: the completely senseless lie that appears to benefit nobody (the keyword here being appears.)
