zasel says:
Iran's president finally opens himself to the possibility of recognizing Israel's right to exist, and no one reports on it. I am no fan of this bastard, but when he makes threatening statements about Israel, his words make headlines. But when he starts to soften his stance, his words are ignored. Is this because the media is afraid to report anything positive about this man? And who are they afraid of upsetting?

Possibly because he includes the radical proposal to let the people of the region determine its future rather than military powers thousands of miles away.

This is indeed good news. On the other hand, his comments about Israel and the holocaust have always been exaggerated in translation, and he was less antagonistic than reporters made him seen. "Wiped off the map" is an English-language colloquialism. Ahmadinejad never said it; it's not a phrase that is used in Persian; it's a reporter's quick translation. And it caused a whole pot of trouble.

I agree with you masbury. Ahmadinejad is not someone I admire at all, but his comments have been taken out of context and mistranslated. They did the same thing when they claimed that at Columbia last year, he said that there were no homosexuals in his country. What he said was there were no homosexuals like we have here, meaning that they were not "out and proud" but kept essentially to themselves. But no one liked that context; it was more fun and made better headlines to say that he denied gays exist at all in Iran.

zasel, you aren't making much sense here. If the man didn't say what 'they' claim he said, why not admire the man? If he doesn't want to wipe Israel off the map, he's quoted out of context and he even had a chit-chat with Larry King about his kids... what's there not to admire? Hugs & kisses should be in order, based on your and masbury's description of the guy. One thing I have to hand to you guys - you write great satire, cause I can't believe you can be that ignorant.
