merrie says: CRUELTY OF SHARIA LAW PENALTIES imposed by Iran's religious mullahs include: THEFT: Amputation of hands or feet for persistent offenders. sion, death. ADULTERY: Death by stoning. UNMARRIED SEX: 100 lashes. CONVERSION TO RELIGION OTHER THAN ISLAM: Death. SODOMY: Death for adults, 74 lashes for consenting child. LESBIANISM: 100 lashes, or on the fourth occasion death. HOMOSEXUAL KISS: 60 lashes. RUBBING ANOTHER MAN'S THIGHS OR BUTTOCKS: 99 lashes - on 4th occasion, death. Almost unbelievable! Ah yes, Iran is so 'free'. Not. Someone said something about "absolute morals". It's all bull sh_t. Secular laws are lightyears ahead of state based religious laws and governments. It's why church and state must always remain separate if the people are to have any freedom to live their lives as they wish. I watched that doco- Oh my God! I don't want to say that we have to respect the rights and beliefs of other cultures, especially after a thing like that, but the only option is a war to change the imposition of their laws. It was a horrible miscarriage of justice and I won't try to convince anyone that it wasn't, but to change that counties application of its laws would cost so many lives - You can't argue the point with the judges in Iran either. It was about respect for the law where they were concerned. If you saw that doco, you know that the girl ( in a justified act of frustration I might add ) threw her shoe at the judge. Thats why she hanged- of course, she may have hanged anyway, but... but the only option is a war to change the imposition of their laws. ItI think we've all already figured that killing a young girl who has been raped, under the false allagation of her misbehaving. What I fail to see is how a war could be the only option to change the imposition of their laws. How could oppression (Coz i'm pretty sure that's the only way they would see such action) be the "only option" taken to get rid of another kind of oppression. I'm as shocked as you are, by the utter inhumanity of these laws, which in this case protect the criminals and punish the victim but still, I... Sounded like dIrish was just using that as a way to point out how little effect any other efforts are having ~ or will have ~ and the sad part of maybe having to just accept their culture and hope for the best ! as opposed to advocating for war. But that was just MY perception. ~ ~ ~ But, as it is, the threat of nukes in the hands of the mullahs might just end up being the thing that CANNOT be ignored. But, as it is, the threat of nukes in the hands of the mullahs might just end up being the thing that CANNOT be ignored. That's pretty much the bottom line. 21st century weapons in the hands of 16th century religious mentality. Why do we all know that's a very bad idea? Just as bad as one of the world's greatest armies under the command of a hellbent moron who only wants to get his greedy hands (and his friends') on oil, and always sugar-coats his intentions with the defense of Freedom. Just as bad as one of the world's greatest armies under the command of a hellbent moron who only wants to get his greedy hands (and his friends') on oil, and always sugar-coats his intentions with the defense of Freedom. Not quite. Bush wants power and wealth. The Muslims want heaven. They are taught they can get that by killing the infidel, that is everyone who's not Muslim. There is incentive for them to use it. The Muslims want heaven. They are taught they can get that by killing the infidel, that is everyone who's not Muslim.Although I agree with you, I'd just not generalize and apply that statement to all Muslims. For a big majority of them just wants to live in peace and don't act according to what the fundamentalists mullahs say. As for Bush, yes he wants power and wealth, and he wants both so bad that he's ready to sacrifice the troops, to starve a population, to let Blackwater's crimes unpunished, etc, etc... So should other countries start war with the U.S.A. to "free" the american people, and while they're at it, deprive the very ppl they claim to free of potable water, el... I'd just not generalize and apply that statement to all Muslims. For a big majority of them just wants to live in peace and don't act according to what the fundamentalists mullahs say.Yes, I know you are right. I wish I could tell the difference; the peaceful ones dare not say anything or be branded, much like the patriots that speak out against Bush are eventually outed and slandered. Except they are much more ruthless. Any form of apostasy is death. OK sorry to be gone for a week, but the job, you know- the reason I stated that War would be the only way to change the imposition of their laws is because they have for centuries used Islamic law to execute anyone that doesn't fit the picture there. Centuries mind you- We would have to go in there, depose the standing government and then convince the entire population that we have the right answer! It's a horrible thought and thank you for pointing that out- I don't mean to suggest that we "should" go to war, I only suggest that it's the only way "change" will come about in most Muslim countries like Iran. I was horrified by that doco, and like all of you don't believe for a second it was t... Oh yeah, the idea of 21st century weapons in the hands of 16th century mentalities is probably an accurate one. I am however sad that we Americans think that its OK to trample a state over whatever it calls this war, be it freedom or anti-terrorism or whatever, yet crimes like this one against an innocent little girl go unanswered.I love America, I am a proud American veteran! But I'm a little dismayed at the route the current government is taking in the world. We used to represent Freedom to the world, and now were the world police and we only seem "committed" when there is a paycheck at the end of the day ( Iraq's Oil ). There's no getting around that with ethnic cleansing in Bosnia or the... We used to represent Freedom to the world, and now were the world police and we only seem "committed" when there is a paycheck at the end of the day ( Iraq's Oil ).Badda bing badda boom. The current admin. mentality. The dems don't seem to be too far off. Politics for money. |
