actually it is not that bad as they have boats and lifegaurds right beside them. It is actually safer then the triathalons.

Yes, but I didn't like the concept of a 7 years old boy swimming from a former "isolated prison island" to SF. Besides, the ocean is dangerous there with that surface streams, the water was cold, etc. It would a better and more meaningful idea to swim from Ellis Island to Manhattan on 4th of July for example

That might be more meaningful but probably just as dangerous. A few years ago an experienced diver (with the police dept or Coast Guard) was pulled under by a very strong current during a rescue drill. His body was found later in the week miles away in the waters of the Bronx

OK, let's just say: "Swimming shows of Guiness Book kind should be forbidden to kids" then. I didn't like the idea of a little boy being drowned.

I agree. It was very irresponsible for the parents to allow it. I don't care how dedicated to the goal he was.
