Okay, Negush. I will tell them to go to work. Now, I have worked with homeless people, and most of them are not employable, but since you want them to work, what is the name of your business? We will come by with applications and you can hire these folks. Now, since you probably don't want anyone who is actually drinking and drugging, we will only send those who are disabled by mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and physical ailments. They will need good positions with health insurance for their maladies. Then, you and I can brainstorm how else to help these "lazy assholes." Since I was homeless as a child due to poverty, I am sure there are children who need shelter, but they should...

I enjoyed my symphony of sarcasm, but it was probably lost on the obviously not-so-bright Negush. With his brilliant social commentary, I am not sure why he is not head of homeless services.

okay, honestly I haven't thought of the mentally disabled homeless people, sorry for this, this seems to be a real problem that should be solved.

However, while posting my last comment I had all the drugging and drinking homeless ppl in mind, those who would spend all their money on drinks/drugs. you gotta take some responsibility for your life, and not lie on the streets and beg for money because you're drunk all the time and can't work.

I'm pretty sure most of those homeless are employable, they just need to get a grip and stop beeing so awfuly miserable, makes me sick when I look at them.

I might be a monster with no sense of compasion but this is how I see it. If I can get a gri...

oh, and if I knew that some of the actually employable would work well to make their life better, I would figure some kind of business to employ them, they might be a good working crew for a minimum wager.

My husband was director of homeless services for a large agency in Saint Louis for four years. Honestly, most can only work minimal jobs at best. Their numerous problems require services to get them functioning well enough to simply maintain a home. Here are lyrics from Lazyboy's song, "Underwear Goes inside the Pants" borrowed from comedian Greg Giraldo:
"We're in one of the richest countries in the world,
but the minimum wage is lower than it was thirty five years ago. There are homeless people everywhere.
This homeless guy asked me for money the other day.
I was about to give it to him and then I thought he was going to use it on drugs or alcohol.

And then I thought, that's what I'm goin...

I'm not that much into homeless discussion, however I think that if those guys took care of their life since the begginig and not make themselves so miserable before, than they would be able to work.

Most of them had the same chances as I did, as people are equal. If they preffered drinking / drugging instead of learning and hard working (they could always have some fun at the weekend :/) than I have no pity for them. Everyone has to take care of himself.

And homeless shelters should think of another way to help those guys if they want to help them so much. Give them some semi-decent clothes, find them a work in a warehouse or something like that where their appearance is not that immp...

You are missing the point. The street homeless are not like you and me. They have serious disabilities both mental and physical. With only a few exceptions, most street people are not employable without job coaches. There is a whole research field on this.

The hidden homeless are poor people, often working, who cannot afford housing. The U.S. does not have very much low-cost housing stock.

I wish I came upon this site sooner. I am doing a speech project on the homeless, while it's for an environmental class, I could not resist.

When I was 8 (now 21) I saw a homeless family outside of my mom's car as we stopped at a red light, the father held up a sign that said "Laid off, homeless, anything will help." It has been inside my head ever since.

I don't know if you log on enough and my speech is coming up on thursday. I keep trying to find sites or information on the statistics of how many homeless are turned away from shelters because the family either has a dad, or there are children.

For my project I proposed that abandoned warehouses be used to make partitions and within thi...
