Our daughter is a college senior about to graduate with a 4.0 grade average who has been offered an assistantship by her professors for grad school at UGA. She has/had a bright future and plans/planned on working with the poor in family financial planning, to help them learn to budget to get affordable housing. She cannot get or afford health ins. while still in school and on these unpaid internships. She will have to turn down this assistantship for grad school if this passes and try to find employment now with health ins. benefits in a job market where unemployment is already at 10.2% rather than to continue on in her education, what a shame. The new plan does NOT help the uninsured members of my family and won't for years if ever. This plan imposes fines starting NOW and only offers benefits to the unisured years down the road. This means for those like our daughter and our young adult son whose home inprovement co. where he works one hour short of fulltime-not by choice : ( does not offer health ins. benefits to those working "part time", will have to pay fines or go to jail now while still being uninsured which was supposed to be the goal.... Then there are our two small 30 yr old retail businesses already suffering in these challenging economic times. This bill is NO help for anyone in our family, even those who are uninsured now and Obama and the Dems are offering absolutely NO help for small businesses with this or any of their other tax and spend policies...only fines and adding more to the national debt.
