Such is the folly of religious law. They are typically inherently unjust. So much for the religion / morality connection. It's usually secular laws that liberate, and religious laws that chain by tradition and doctrine.

And they will swear these laws are coming from the divine.

We deride China (but not too loudly), and justly so, for civil rights offenses, but pour big bucks into Israel while ignoring this fact. Go figure.
