If you talk to people, you admit they might have something valid to say, and if they might have something valid to say, you might not be able to persuade America that they are death-crazed terrorists (i.e., "you can't reason with them"). For if you let the cat out of the bag that they can be reasoned with, you probably won't be able to get America to go to war against them.
