The caretsian myth is easily dismissed, but it keeps cropping up in new forms. The current one is the idea that the 'mind' is like a computer, that 'reason' is a supernatural universal that is separate from the guts and flesh of human beings etc etc. Lakoff et al do accessible demolitions of this particular chunk of eighteenth century confusion (see, for instance, "Women, Fire and Dangerous Things").
